Q: Hot Flashes?
I'm 26 years old and have a very consistent menstrual cycle. I’ve only missed my period twice since I’ve started at 12 years old. But I have been experiencing Hot Flashes at night and during the day. There have been people who have started menopause early, but I do not have any other symptoms.
I've always been "hot stuff" and do not tolerate heat. It's winter now and I have still feel like I have hot flashes about once a day. Currently I am not on medications or have any other symptoms. I do have insomnia that I've been coping with. Do you have any suggestions on what else could be going on? Is this "minor" issue worth going to the doctor for?
A: I used to have night sweats during my 20s. It was from a hormonal imbalance.
You could be going through that or hormonal changes or it could be anything.
Please see a Gyn who can help you with this problem. You may also want to see an Endocrinologist, who specializes in hormonal disorders.
Q: What could cause hot flashes other than menopause?
I am 25 so it's obviously not that, but I wake up every night in the middle of the night with these horrible hot flashes and on top of that I have migranes(sp) from hell every night. I don't know what could be the cause of this.
A: I was having them too. I couldnt figure out why. My feet were on fire and so was the rest od my body. My doctor told me dehydration at night can cause these type of reaction.
Try drinking some gatorade before you go to sleep and keeping the bottle by the bed. It cant hurt to try
Q: How long will I continue to have hot flashes?
55 yrs old. Quit having periods 4 years ago, but the hot flashes and insomnia are still going on. Hot flashes extremely severe, especially at night. I've read reports that these types of symptoms should only last about a year. I have congestive heart failure, so I cannot use hormone replacement therapy. How much longer am I going to have to live with this?
A: Eat dark leafy vegetables (mustard greens) and drink a hot tea with honey before going to bed and see. Take natural thyroid products too!
Q: How do you get hot flashes when you are post menopause?
My mom is having hot flashes and she hasn't had a period for over 3 years, how is this possible?
A: It can occur because the body is no longer making the hormones. I have the link to another site that may be able to give you even more information. The link is at: http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health
Q: How long will hot flashes continue after menestration stops?
I stopped meninstrating about four years ago. I didn't really have a problem with hot flashes at that time. But it seems like here lately I am experiencing a lot of "fluxuation." What I mean is I am extremely hot one minute and cold the next. It's like my thermostat is off. Any suggestions what might be going on. I don't see my gynocologist until August I thought I'd put this question out.
A: Every person is different.
For me...I started complete menopause at the age of 36 and I am now 45.
I still have hot flashes about 15 times a day, and each of them last about 90 seconds each. (and they only affect my neck and face)
Q: Have you/can you start getting hot flashes at two weeks pregnant? What do they feel like?
Has anyone gotten hot flashes when they're only two weeks pregnant? Is it possible? And do hot flashes make you feel warm inside, like your whole body is burning?
A: I just found out that I am pregnant. Actually hot flashes/body temperature change and sensitivity to smell was my 1st sign of pregnancy. To me hot flashes felt as if my body/skin is on fire. I felt very hot. If I open the window or turn on the ac I would get cold very quick. So I put a blanket over my body, I got hot so quick that I start to sweat. I also woke up sweating many nights. Also my bf hesitated to cuddle with me when we were watching tv. He said my skin felt very hot. This all happened last week and I'm now 5 weeks pregnant.
Q: How long after hot flashes start does your period stop?
I'm only 40 and I started having hot flashes a few weeks ago and now my period is 8 days late. I have had a tubal ligation and I was worried that maybe it had failed so I took a pregnancy test and it was negative so pregnancy is ruled out.
A: I don't' know but i would like to know what they feel like so when i start to have them i will know. Do you feel hot like its a hot day or do you feel hot just in one place or other? Can you have a period and still get hot flashes? I guess i need to go find lots of information since they say you can get them very early in life.
Q: What could be causing me to have hot flashes at the age of 23?
Over the last few months I have been experiencing what I think are hot flashes. They hit me all of a sudden but don’t last long maybe 5 mins. Its just real annoying , any suggestion? Do you think it could be hormonal related?
A: It probably is hormone related.
The question is which hormone?
go in and get some blood work.
Make sure you are not in premature ovarian failure.
Q: Why do I get hot flashes on my right leg?
Everyday I get these hot flashes on my right leg, it feels like a very warm heat overcoming my leg, once I got a tingling along my right leg and foot. I'm not sure if this is a sign of bad circulation. Anybody else ever have this feeling?
A: I would check it out with a doctor. I have been told that hot flashes in the leg can be a sign of blood clotting.
Q: What all natural herbal pill and what diet do you use for hot flashes?
And does your method seem to help you? I'd appreciate any ideas on how I can control my hot flashes naturally. I use all natural progesterone cream now but it hasn't helped here lately.
A: I am unsure of your age but you can take Nutrilite Black Cohosh and Soy supplements. They are derived from organic farms. Go to http://arcameda.com and search for it for more information.
Q: How do I tell if I'm having hot flashes or just hot from the temperature?
I'm 49 and think I may be having very subtle hot flashes but I also work a very physical job and get hot from the temperature.
A: If you get very irritable when you get these hot flashes or are feeling more hot than normal, then it could be hot flashes. You are at that age, so I think it's menopause. Go see your ob/gyn. He/she will be able to tell you if you are experiencing signs of menopause, and will probably prescribe you hormone replacement treatments. They may prescribe something else, but it might not even be menopause. But because of your age, I'm thinking it's more than likely menopause. But I'm no doctor so be sure to go see your ob/gyn.
Q: What is the best natural medicine for hot flashes?
I'm 44 and these hot flashes are making it hard to sleep at night!
A: I take wild yam root. black cohosh has been shown to cause liver damage.
The Wild Yam Root acts like progesterone in your body
it reduces the hot flashes and helps to balance the estrogen .
Q: Is there an average length of time for hot flashes to last?
I had to get a complete hystorectomy June of 05 and these incessant hot flashes are kicking my A. I know that each situation is different but it's been a year and four months and they are as bad as when they started!!
A: My grandmother had hot flashes into her 80s. I've been on HRT for 10 years. Each time I try to go off, the hot flashes return with a vengeance. As you observed, it depends on the person. After putting up with hot flashes for three years, and after trying several "natural" remedies (which didn't work), I went on HRT. I'm quite willing to accept the very slight risk of HRT for the improved quality of life in the meantime.
Q: Is it possible to begin having hot flashes at age 66?
I had a partial hysterectomy at age 32 due to cancer, then had my ovaries removed at age 57. I just recently began having extremely intense, uncomfortable hot flashes. I am taking numerous medications and wonder if this is a side effect or if I may need hormone replacement treatment. (I thought I was too old to need hormones). I will, of course, ask my Doctor, but wonder if there are any Nurses or Doctors or persons who have had such an experience who can give me any information. Thank you.
A: several of my patients in the nursing homes have hot flashes due to meds. I would consult dr. If you are taking a number of meds your body may just be adjusting to them. Definitely speak with dr. let them know what is going on.
Q: Is it normal to feel like your heart is going to jump out of your chest when having hot flashes?
For the past two weeks, I've been unable to sleep at night due to night sweats and hot flashes. When I get a hot flash within a couple of minutes it feels like my heart is going to jump right out of my chest. Is this normal? Any remedies for relief?
A: Oh boy! I hear ya!...anxiety takes over when the hot flashes start... I know it's almost unbelievable and /or unbearable but you have to calm yourself..in my case the sweating won't stop until I wake up and get a glass of icy water. Put the fan on high, try to relax and as soon as your body temperature goes down you should be able to fall asleep again. If not, try Benadryl, one capsule just before bedtime or Melatonin, one 3mg pill. Try to establish a calm just before you go to bed routine.. it helps me.
