Q: What is a good thesis statement for diet/health issues for a research paper?
Its for an opposing arguement about why diets are healthy, not healthy, how people are becoming unhealthy by not eating the right foods, and just overall health in general. I need a good thesis that is 2 sentences long...
If Anyone can help me it would be great!!!
A: 149 million Americans are overweight! With so many weight loss resources readily available, why is the obesity epidemic exploding?
or
With hundreds of diets to choose from, why would so many American men, women, and children still be dangerously overweight?
or
The weight loss industry is booming, even in difficult economic time, so why are so many Americans still obese? Is it possible that diets are detrimental to our health?
Q: What is a really good diet and health plan to loose weight but not too much?
I am looking for a really good diet and health workout that will get me in shape and let me loose weight but only a little

Q: Anyone on a gluten free diet for health reasons not related to celiac disease?
I have just been placed on a gluten free diet due to health reasons but not for celiac disease or anything like that. My doctor actually thinks that it will help me to have less migraine headaches. Has anyone ever heard of this or had any success with this. Where can I go for more info on a gluten free diet? Thanks!
A: Migraines can be related to non-celiac gluten intolerance as well as celiac disease. I used to get awful headaches every single day until I went gluten-free. I never got a diagnosis, so I'm not sure if they were migraines, but I had the whole light and sound sensitivity with some visual auras sometimes. So I'm guessing if it wasn't migraines it was similar.
The best place for information on the gluten-free diet is -

There are over 12 thousand registered members. It's for anyone who is on or considering a gluten free diet for any reason.
Hope you feel better soon.

Q: Is there anyone out that seriously wants a health/diet buddy? ?
I have had some heart and health trouble. I am 29, I live in Texas and I am looking for someone to talk to daily about diet, health and excercise. I figure if I have someone to share with who has a goal to be healthier and thinner than it may make it fun and a bit easier.
Anyone out there who would like a diet friend???
A: You can email me through my profile. I'm a nutrition major (so I LOVE talking about food and exercise....most people I talk to get bored with me) who just recently started exercising again and hopes to stick with it this time.
Q: anyone on a vegetable/fruit diet for health and wellness reasons?
your diet most likely also includes some protein, grains, etc. for other nutrients, but which fruits and veggies do you find the most beneficial to you health?
A: Fruits and vegies that are coloured a bright red, purple, blue, orange and yellow are the best because they are rich in antioxidants that slow down the aging process and reduce your likelihood of getting cancer.
They include tomatoes, strawberries, red capsicums, red beetroot, red cabbage, blueberries, bilberries, blue or purple grapes, pumpkin, corn (maize), oranges, carrots, lemons and others.

Q: What is the most effective health diet product to take for weight loss?
OK, I have tried what I think is all of them. Has anyone had any success on a particular one?
A: The most effective? None. Diet supplements only slow down your metabolism, though they say otherwise. Ditch the pills, vitamins, tablets, drinks, and whatever else you bought. Just eat healthy and exercise regularly (a jog a day, etc.).
Q: Does WHAT you eat count more than how MUCH you eat, diet/health wise?
Is eating a lot of healthy, nutritious food better than eating little of non-nutritious food?
Just wondering; the idea popped into my head a day ago while cutting up some carrots ;)
-and I'm not talking slight differences in amounts, I was thinking more along the lines of if you basically starved yourself with like four grapes a day against eating all the vegetables/fruits/dairy/whatever you'd like.
A: You would lose weight if you ate less but eating tons of vegetables and fruits would definately be healthier. The only thing is that you need to eat protein too, so if you had protein you would be all set.
Q: How can I start a fitness and health diet program at school?
I am EXTREMELY CONCERNED about all of the overweight kids in the halls, blocking my way.
They are blocking my way, causing me to be occasionally be late for class, and therefore interrupting my education.
I am rather petite and feel that I am going to start lifting weights so I can push my way through.
Thank you and good day.
Wabby - yes I agree. Thank you and good day.
All - these were all EXTREMELY good answers. Thank you and good day.
A: Perhaps you could suggest to your principal that your school could develop a lunchtime program where students could discuss fitness and health issues. This program could also be integrated into any existing P.E. program.I think issues such as promoting good health through fitness and diet can be made to appeal to all students. Guest speakers could be brought in to speak on a variety of topics.Students could have a suggestion box and put in requests for possible topics.Does your school have an after school cooking club? This could be another option for learning how to be creative with meals that are nutritious and satisfying. If you have a written proposal to submit to your principal your idea will be taken more seriously.By the way I would omit the part about people blocking the hall if you want them to read your proposal. Good luck
Q: I am going on a thirty day diet, health and fitness routine. Anyone want to join me and share our progress?
Thirty days to drop the few pounds I gained in the last 3 months and get myself feeling great. Want to team together anyone and support eachother?
A: No thanks, I dont diet
Q: Are there really any health benefits to drinking diet soda?
It bugs me that people always insist on drinking diet soda, all the time, even if they don't need it! When I say, "If you want to stay healthy, just drink water. Diet soda is unhealthy," they reply, "Um, duh diet soda is healthy! Why do you think it's called DIET?!"
I know that water is a better beverage than diet soda. But are there really any health benefits to drinking diet soda, instead of regular?! Or is diet soda just disgusting toxic waste filled with artificial stuff?
A: The only benefits are to your teeth unless you are diabetic or otherwise sensitive to sugar.
It is called diet because most people cut back on calories while they are dieting. Dieting is probably the worst thing someone can do to themself. All they do is induce mild starvation, which increases fat storage and reduces metabolism (i.e. gain weight now, harder to lose later).
If I were you, I would cut out the soda (and any unnatural looking juices). They regular kind are essentially a liquid candy, something that should be enjoyed on occasion, not a staple. And I could not have described "diet" soda any better than you did.
Artificial sweeteners, like sugar, induce the glycemic response, the body's reaction to an expected "sugar rush". In other words it causes "sugar crashes" and the increased storage of fat. Adequate exercise counteracts this as the net calories do not increase, but combined with inactivity will cause weight gain.
In fact, most artificial sweeteners have more serious health risks.
Saccharin (pink) causes cancer in larger doses (not proven in humans).
Aspartame (blue) causes intense pain for those born with phenylketonuria (very rare...though I have met 2) and breaks down into several poisons, including formaldehyde.
Sucralose (yellow) actually has more calories than sugar, though the body cannot absorb it easily. If an intestinal bacteria ever figures out how to convert it to sugar...it will become the next aspartame.
Then there are sugar alcohols, for the most part they are natural extracts that do not have as many calories as sugar. I doubt there are serious health risks, but some are used as laxatives for a reason.

Q: Which ascepts of a vegetarian diet may be bad for your health?
I know a veggie diet has lots of health benifits but what are the disads and how do I combat them?
Thankies ^^
A: You'll get a lot of misinformed people likely saying lack of protein & iron, but don't believe that.
The average diet in America contains excess proteins. You can easily get all the protein you need from eating beans and rice a few times a week, as together, they form a complete protein.
Oats, soy & lentils provide significantly higher amounts of iron than meat. You would have to focus your meat eating on liver to get larger amounts of iron, so that argument is bogus too. (see link 1 if you like)
The biggest issue is with people who just cut out the meat from their diet but don't eat healthy. Meaning the vegetarian who lives off french fries and bean burritos.
Those people will be just as unhealthy as anyone else who has a poor diet.
Of course cutting out meat eliminates large amounts of cholesterol from your diet (unless you go vegan you will still get some from dairy products), large amounts of saturated fat, and of course meat products contain almost no fiber, which you would get by adding whole grains to your diet.
The vitamin E argument mentioned below is bogus too (see link #2). The best sources for that are from nuts and seeds.
