Q: Brewers yeast for making apple cider vinegar?
I need to use brewers yeast to make apple cider vinegar, but all I have on hand are the tablets you buy in the vitamin aisle.
Does anyone know if these will meet the requirement?
Thanks in advance.
I have heard conflicting info on brewers yeast...that is is dead yeast with nutrients left behind and that it is live yeast.
I had only wanted to hasten the process and won't be using the tablets since they aren't what is required.
Thanks again!
A: I say it is unnecessary. the natural yeast on the apple should do...
(you did leave the skin on as you ground the mash???) Right?
BUT try

Q: Brewers yeast is good for bread?
I am making the starter dough for semolina bread and only have brewers yeast in the house, which i thought was the right one, now i stopped and came to ask. What is the right one? Help!
A: Sorry, most can't use the brewer's yeast. Brewer’s Yeast is a dried, inactive yeast that has little to no fermenting power. People use it for its nutritional value, being very high in the B vitamins. It gets its name from being a by product of the brewing industry. After several successive beer fermentations, it loses its activity and is no longer able to be used in the beer making process. Some people do use brewer's yeast to make bread, it isn't impossible, but it's just not the same. You probably have deactivated brewer's yeast from the health food store, and this definitely wouldn't work.
Depending upon your recipe, you could use either active dry yeast (which will need a proofing period in water and sugar) or instant yeast (which you would just mix with the flour). Either one is acceptable. If you share your recipe, we could advise you on which one the recipe is calling for.
Semolina is a coarsely ground grain. It is used with other flours in recipes, commonly in pasta dishes.
Q: Can dry brewers yeast replace regular yeast in a pizza crust recipe?
Because I've read somewere than Neapolitan pizza is made with Brewers yeast, and I've only got Brewers yeast so..
A: not the same thing
no
Q: Has anyone used brewers yeast on their cats to get rid of fleas?
My cats have fleas and I just want to see if anyone knows how well brewers yeast works?
A: I have heard of adding brewers yeast to pets diets to eliminate fleas. So far, from my experience as a veterinary technician I have not seen it work yet. I have not read any studies, journals, or articles published in veterinary medicine claiming it works either.
It shouldn't hurt to try a small amount in supplementing in food. Supposedly the thought behind the supplementing is to alter the taste or smell of the skin to deter fleas. How well this works? Well, as I stated before... no one has a clue.
*IF you run across people telling you that onion powder or garlic powder will work on fleas do not take them up on this advice.
Garlic and Onions have compounds that trigger a disease process called Heinz-body anemia in cats and dogs. This disease causes the destruction of red-blood cells in their body and can be fatal.
Just an FYI ;)
Q: Has anyone lost weight cooking with brewers yeast?
I've been cooking with brewers yeast in just about all of my meals for about a month now and I feel great. Has anyone had any good success with the continual use of brewers yeast? Thank you. I'll take any recipies too :-)
A: Brewers yeast has nothing to do with weight loss.
Brewers yeast is the same as nutritional yeast. When you use
it in cooking, you lose most of the nutrients because they
are killed at a very low temperature.
Your best bet is to eat healthy/cut the sugar/carbs/fats/
start walking. Brewers Yeast is a wonderful food, but best mixed with milk or sprinkled over morning cereal or evening
veggies. If it tastes strong--then it is old. Fresh tastes great.
Q: brewers yeast and garlic to repel fleas?
I am making dog treats for a local craft fair. I hear brewers yeast and garlic is good natural flea repellant. I thought about making flea repelling biscuits. I hear the yeast may be bad for big dogs, and that garlic is actually toxic to dogs. Is this true?
A: Garlic is toxic for dogs and brewers yeast can cause bloat in large dogs. Probably not a good idea.
Both are dependent on the amounts given, but doggy treats tend to be given in greater quantities than say a small capsule.
Q: brewers yeast?
dose any one know where i can buy alcohol resistant yeast? I need some to make my home brew better
A: Most beer yeast is alcohol tolerant up to about 10 or 12% ABV. If you are brewing an extremely high gravity beer, then start with your normal beer yeast and then pitch a wine yeast after the beer yeast has finished. Red Star makes Cote de Blancs and Montrachet which are tolerant up to about 14-16%, and Champagne which is tolerant up to about 18%.
I have used the Champagne yeast before to get mead up to 20%, but that was done by stepping the honey in.
There is also 'turbo yeast' used for ditillation which can go up to 20-24%, but the finished product will not taste the same, as this yeast is designed purely for ABV %, and not flavor.
Q: To make wine from fresh organic grapes, how do I do that without using brewers yeast?
i live in the M.E. so they prohibit Brewers Yeast being sold here. Secondly, if I wash the grapes do i lose the natural yeast content?
A: Do not wash the grapes. They should have natural yeast on the skins.
The reason grapes are the perfect fruit to make wine is that they contain everything needed, including yeast, which can often be seen as the white bloom on the skin of grapes.
Many commercial wine makers use natural yeast fermentation. It can be erratic and it can take a long time.
Put grapes in a large container, break them with a stick, and seal with an airlock. They should start fermenting on their own.
(you don't need to add sugar or water -- the grape contains all that is necessary)
Q: Can liquid brewers yeast cause weight gain?
i heard that liquid brewers yeast can cause weight gain. I was woundering if anybody knew if this was true.
A: brewers yeast? being the base for beer?
Q: can brewers yeast with garlic give your dog a yeast infection?
I took My little girl(shih-tzu) to the vet today. And she said she has a yeast in her ears. She gave me drops to use for a couple days. But I been giving her brewers yeast with garlic to keep fleas away.and it also has omega 3 in it .Can this be what gave her the ear problems.
I have been useing it for a couple weeks and we don't have ANY fleas.
A: firstly and most important anything in the onion family should not be fed to dogs as they can be toxic and cause liver failure, this includes garlic. Secondly yeast occurs naturally in the ear canal however occasionally will overgrow due to the warm moist conditions inside the ear causing a yeast infection. I doubt that the brewers yeast is keeping away many fleas. The only benificial ingredient in the tablet that you've been giving is the omega-3.
Q: I am allergic to brewers yeast , are there any alcoholic beverages that i can drink???
i know that beer is out of the question, but how about hard liquor? does that have brewers yeast and if t does, is there a less percentage of it? thankkksss if you can helpp !!
A: Well, first off, are you allergic to brewers yeast, or a chemical it contains/produces. Most beers, unless they say they are bottle conditioned/fermented, are usually filtered (and pasteurized) and almost completely yeast free. Wine is the same way.
However, even if they are yeast free, alcoholic beverages may contain an extract from the yeast, that is exactly what you are allergic too. Hard liquors would be the least likely to culprit to make you ill, since they are made of the recondensed vapor of ethanol and water, and other light flavor compounds. There are definitely no solid yeast compounds in hard liquor, but then again, if you're allergic to an ester, phenol, or other volatile that the yeast produces, then it is possible that those could be distilled into the final product as well.
All in all, it comes down to just how allergic you are to brewers yeast. If it's a mild allergy, then most large commercial brews should be safe. Not because they contain chemicals like moron above said, but because they super filter and pasteurize their products so that they always taste the same. Wine is usually filtered very well and doesn't contain yeast either. Hard liquor contains no yeast.
Q: Do kids grow out of an allergy to brewers' yeast?
One of my kids is allergic to brewers' yeast (we found this out through testing for various allergies). In Australia, this is a small tragedy, as Vegemite is made from brewers' yeast!
Does anyone know if this is an allergy he will grow out of? Will he be able to have a beer when he grows up?
A: I too am allergic to brewers yeast....it makes my nose stop up...however I can drink light beers like Corona...the older I get the lesser the symptoms....if he doesn't mind a stuffy nose for a few hours....
Q: Does anyone know anything about using brewers yeast and garlic to help rid fleas from dogs?
I have had 2 different people tell me that brewers yeast and garlic helps w/ fleas. One also says it does other things as well. Was just looking for more information
i don't have a problem now, was just looking for alternative methods to prevention due to my dogs hating the current tx method.
A: Garlic has recently found to cause anemia in dogs..I have heard of the remedy all of my life, but have never known it to help much..Perhaps some types of fleas, but not the ones I have met!
REVOLUTION is fairly new on the market, and is super effective! where has it been all my life! it also prevent heartworms and many other parasites, internal and external..it is just a liquid to apply to the back of the shoulders/neck area..You can get it at vet clinics, and they are encouraged to give the first treatment free..
Q: Can humans take brewers yeast? If so, what benefits does it offer?
I know that you can give brewers yeast to dogs but can people take it too? What does it do? What is it good for? If it doesn't do anything beneficial then I wouldn't take it.
A: I agree with the first answerer. The B Vitamins are known as the anti-stress vitamins and Brewers yeast does contain these and thus taking it could help with stress. Admittedly though, these are present in small amounts. It may benefit the hair, skin and nails, from its B Vitamin content, mineral content and also from its amino acid content. Its all natural so could be considered a food (and perhaps super food) rather than nutritional supplement.
One of its traditional uses in humans as been for the nervous system, for calming the nerves. Again, this goes back to its B Vitamin content. However, if you have been suffering from prolonged nervous exhaustion and stress, a formulated B Complex tablet may offer more benefit owing to having higher concentrations of the individual B Vitamins.Another traditional use is for healthy skin and hair.
A typical break-down of nutrients, though this will vary from brand to brand and batch to batch:

Q: What makes the big biomass of brewers yeast and hence big beer loss?
I want to know the contribution of high yeast growth and hence the beer also losses with the high yeast growth
A: I don't fully understand what you're asking but the "big biomass" of yeast is created from the yeast multiplying or if you mean the foam (Krausen) then that's from the gases the yeast give off during fermentation (CO2). The better the yeast are cared for the more violent the fermentation is going to be and the greater cell count/krausen you're going to end up with. This involves the sugar content (type and amount) of the wort, the nutrient level of the wort, the temperature of the fermentation, the pH of the wort, the oxygen levels, the initial pitching rate of the yeast, and probably a dozen other things I'm forgetting. If you get a high yield of yeast you'll lose a varying amount of liquid volume to the yeast slurry in an effort to decant the wort of the yeast cake so perhaps that's the loss you're talking about.
