Q: lactobacillus acidophilus?
has anyone taken this to help in toxining? what about bifudus?
i mean to DETOX, sorry.
Also, im a vegan so i cant eat the yogurt. has anyone taken supplements for probiotics? helpful?
A: What do you mean in toxining.... unless you have a large amount of either bacteria that produce endotoxins you are killing or a fair amount of bacteria that produce exotoxins or both... why would you need to upset your normal flora?
That's rediculous. If you wish to change it go ahead... It won't hurt you... but next time just say yogurt to detox... it is easier to understand and makes you sound just as smart to those who haven't had micro... to the rest of us... we just wonder why you are concerned with putting the species when the genus will do just fine for what you are asking.
Q: How does Lactobacillus acidophilus reduce serum cholesterol in the human body?
Any website references is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A: L. acidophilus reduces serum cholesterol in an unknown mechanism according to researchers in the article I will site below. However, it is believed that the bile acids are deconjugated in the intestinal tract resulting in poor reuptake of the bile salts (as you may know the body recycles most of the bile excreted into the small intestine). As a general rule, conjugated molecules are more soluble and more likely to pass the plasma membrane resulting in reuptake, so to reiterate if a molecule is unconjugated it is less likely to be taken up by the intestinal lining. The increased excretion of bile (caused by L. acidophilus converted it to unconjugated bile) results in increased synthesis of bile in the liver, the liver utilizes cholesterol to produce bile, if more cholesterol is used to produce bile then serum cholesterol levels will be reduced. Take a look at the article.
Q: How is a culture of lactobacillus acidophilus prepared commercially?
I need to know what type of agar is usually used, what temperature it is kept at and any extra details.
I'm doing a science experiment for a school project and I need the info for the control urgently. Can someone help?
tarik, wads the measurements thingie mean? DX
I'm only a sec 2 student. lol. i don't even noe where to get the bacteria.
A: Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus are Yoghurt bacteria. Casein hydrolysate (3-4g/l) with 10-20g/l lactose, or just milk ( 250-300ml/l) and agar (7-8g/l). Temperature 35-40°C.
Q: I am going to start taking Lactobacillus acidophilus pills. How many should I take per day to help?
I am taking them for IBS and to prevent yeast infections.
A: You might start with 2 in the morning with breakfast & 2 in evening.....then after about a month reduce it back to 2 a day unless you have a flare up.
Q: Is lactobacillus Acidophilus an autotroph or heterotroph?
It's driving me crazy! Also, if they're heterotrophic, what do they eat?
A: Ferments lactose into lactic acid. So, heterotroph.
Q: Does intake of Lactobacillus acidophilus prevent heart attacks?
Can anyone cite any medical research that has been carried out recently? Really appreciate it. Thanks!
A: No. It helps with digestive enzymes.
Heart attacks are caused by cardiac artery blockages.
If you need primary literature, do a search on pubmed.
Q: Any doctors have an opinion about taking lactobacillus acidophilus supplements?
Do you believe that it helps to take a supplement for colon health and to prevent yeast infections? I know that you can eat yogurt and get the same effect, but I was curious if taking the pill form would help out as well? What is the opinion? I read that the studies aren't very conclusive and I was wondering what the current status was.
A: Current medical opinion is that the studies are inconclusive. Basically, without strong proof, the implication is that it really doesn't help, or it helps so little that you would need to treat so many people in a study to prove it that it isn't practical.
My personal feeling is that there may be some benefit that hasn't been proven because studies have been small or poorly designed. Because it is not harmful and is so cheap, I tell my patients that they can take it if they want to.
Remember that the best time to take it is outside of the conditions that are killing your body's own bacteria (Lactobacillus is one). That is to say, if you are on antibiotics, do not take them within 3-4 hours of antibiotics, or they will die, too. Otherwise, you could try Saccharomyces boulardii, which is not susceptible to most antibiotics.
Q: Which yogurt has the necessary amount of lactobacillus acidophilus?
I have heard that some yogurts do not have the right amount or none at all and that some have too much sugar. Which brands are the best for preventing yeast infections?
A: You should try the new yogurt by the name of DanActive. I recommend it to patients all the times and it seems to help prevent access yeast as well as assists your immune system and may even help regulate your bowel.
PS...I also use it.
Good Luck! :)
Q: Which are the implications of an excess of Lactobacillus acidophilus in your body?
I know that this bacteria is benefitial for the human body, but what if is there too much of it?? Is it harmful???
A: This bacteria is a pro-biotic, good bacteria, living in our mouth, intestines and vagina ( if you have one). There have been many of studies as to the benefits of ingesting L. acidophilus but unfortunately not much research has been done on the possible problems that may arise from taking too much of them.
Q: How to isolate Lactobacillus acidophilus from yoghurt, contaminated by yeasts?
A: First you can use the dilution series method. That is by putting the yogurt through several step of dilution, I thinks you should put it through 10000 (10e4) dilution series. Then take around 100 microliter from the last three series put it in petridish (plating) with LA (Luria agar) medium or Rogosa SL agar medium (this one is Specific lactobacillus medium) then spread the sample until it is spread evenly. Incubate it for 24 Hours
after 24 Hours you can see the different colonies that is appearing then take 1 separate colony of L.acidophilus (you can see it from the different colony morphology from the yeast) than put it in the new medium. But if you use the Rogosa SL agar medium it will be specific Lactobacillus who can grow on it so you would not have to pick from the different morphology colony, it will only grow Lactobacillus
Or you can also do the 4 quadrant streak from the yogurt sample to the LA medium plating. and incubate for 24 Hours then again you can see the different colony morpology and put the L.acidophilus separate colony to a new medium.
Q: What can I get that has Lactobacillus Acidophilus in it? (good bacteria)?

Q: What is the basic source from which Lactobacillus delbruecki, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Streptococcus ther
A: You're missing half the question.
Q: Are Omega 3 and Lactobacillus Acidophilus supplement pills (probiotics) safe to take during pregnancy?
A: Absolutely! The Omega 3s help baby's brain development and the probiotics really help keep your digestion on track, something that can sometimes be a big challenge during pregnancy.
Q: what yogurt contains Lactobacillus acidophilus?
i need to know any brand names of yogurts (or pills??) that contain Lactobacillus acidophilus. i hear this may benefit for people that get bacterial vaginosis often, and it regulates their "whatever" down there. :) thanx!!
A: Pretty much all yogurt, except yogurt which has been heat-treated after culturing. However, if you are serious about eating yogurt to cure yeast infection (yogurt to my knowledge works for yeast infection, not bacterial infections), make sure to eat ONLY the PLAIN variety. The other kinds have too much sugar, which feeds the yeast. You can also use plain yogurt as a douche, which is very effective for combating yeast infection.
Here is a link where you can read about bacterial vaginosis. Apparently, the type of acidophilus found in yogurt is not the same kind that is found in the human body. There is also a link here that discusses yeast infections.

Q: Colostrum and Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium?
Can "Colostrum Powder and Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium" take by vegetarian?????? i'm keen to know the answer.........
A: These are pre- or probiotics which alter the gastrointestinal tract bacterial flora, causing more helpful bacteria to proliferate and suppressing the growth of harmful ones. In the process, you gain positive effects, which include increased immune defenses, lower cholesterols, defense against cancer formation, decreasing harmful sugars, good intestinal motility, etc.
